Money raised during the Canadian Movember campaign goes directly to Prostate Cancer Canada, the only national foundation dedicated to the elimination of the disease through research, education, support and awareness.

Prostate Cancer Canada uses the funds raised by Movember for the development of programs related to awareness, public education, advocacy, support of those affected and research into the prevention, detection, treatment and cure of prostate cancer.

“Prostate cancer is over 90 percent curable if detected and treated in its earliest stages. In addition to investing in research, Movember raises awareness of the disease and ultimately saves lives,” says Steve Jones, President and CEO, Prostate Cancer Canada. “Together we are changing the face of men’s health.”

The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Canada was founded in 1994, and worked tirelessly with professionals and organizations to advance the prostate cancer cause. A 1997 National Prostate Cancer Forum brought together 150 stakeholders to develop direction for future research, communication and advocacy activities.

In July 1999, the Foundation merged with the Canadian Prostate Cancer Research Fund, to become the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada. Since then, the Foundation has become one of Canada's foremost organizations dedicated solely to raising funds for research to eliminate prostate cancer.

In May 2009, after ten years of successful fundraising and research efforts, the Foundation re-branded itself from the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada (PCRFC) to Prostate Cancer Canada (PCC).  With a new name and identity, the Foundation re-positioned itself as the only national foundation dedicated to the elimination of the disease through research, education, support and awareness.

Funds raised by Movember are being used to support various research programs such as:

- University Health Network’s study of Expressed Prostatic Secretions (EPS) proteins, which act as prostate cancer biomarkers, allowing to better differentiate between indolent and aggressive prostate cancer.
- CancerCare Manitoba’s research of sex hormone’s effects on the prostate gland and their role in the development of prostate cancer.
- University of Saskatchewan’s research surrounding a new drug’s affect on prostate cancer cells, and whether or not it can block the progression of prostate cancer.
- Université Laval’s study on the interaction of dietary fat, sex hormones and prostate inflammation on the development of prostate cancer.

“With support for Movember in the coming years, there is no limit to the success that a campaign like this can have,” says Steve Jones, President & CEO, Prostate Cancer Canada.  “Working together we will give new hope to the 1 in 6 Canadian men who will be diagnosed with the disease in their lifetime.”
